Singapore Serial: A Quick Time in Clarke Quay

In having a short holiday, we must be SMART in organizing the schedule and also choosing the nice places that will be visited. We couldn’t spend too much time in only one area within a day. The overall objective will be almost all tourist destinations are visited. But HOW?

What is exactly Clarke Quay? It is a very unique and conserved historical landmark in Singapore River and the fringe of Singapore’s Central Business District. If we stand in the riverside from the Central, we can see the blocks of shop houses and warehouses with funky art-deco structures. It was very beautiful and also attractive to be seen. I really love the view.

A lot of my friends said that the night time would be the best time to enjoy the riverside cafe in Clarke Quay, Singapore. On my previous visit in Singapore, I went to one of the riverside cafes in Clarke Quay to had dinner. It was also very crowded with lots of people had dinner as well as just sat around with their families and friends. There were some attractions at the end of the riverside for children. However, many adults were also had fun in those attractions. I was agree that this riverside area was very lively and fun for both adults and children. The atmosphere was also pleasant with dim lights that showered from the building around and we could see the bridge while eating. We also could ride a boat. This area was very recommended to be visited for both daytime as well as the night time.

The Riverside of Clarke Quay

On my last visit to Singapore, I went to Clarke Quay on the daytime instead of the night time. And it was only a quick visit because I had to go to other destinations for the photo shoot. Clarke Quay area is very easy to be reached. If you travel from the Orchard MRT Station, you take the North South Line (Red Line) towards Marina South Pier and get off in Dolby Ghaut MRT station and change to Purple Line towards HarbourFront and get off in Clarke Quay station. It was very easy to be reached. The Clarke Quay MRT station itself is located underneath the Central, which is the medium size mall that is located nearby the riverside.

The Central Mall was not crowded like in Orchard area. However, this mall provides some restaurants in lower ground and also in ground floor. There are many shops that you might be interested to have a window shopping with less crowd.

At the entrance at the back side of the mall, you will find the riverside area that you may see the colorful building opposite the river. You are also able to sitting along the riverside while having lunch, resting or enjoying the leisure time by looking the beautiful scenery, including boat.

My suggestion would be the night time is better time to enjoy the moment in Clarke Quay because the atmosphere will create the calm and peaceful feeling while spending the time in Riverside Area or in Clarke Quay.

Thanks for reading!

  1. My colleague in Singapore Branch told me Clark Quay was huge garbage, very smelly river in 1970’s. I love the thought both goverment and the people work together to make it a nice hang out place. My regional office was near by, my favorite place to have lunch. Salam Kenal!
